In a major step towards advancing clean energy access, Masdar, TotalEnergies, and EPointZero have signed a Framework for Action (FFA) to accelerate renewable energy deployment in Africa and Asia. The agreement, which builds on the strong ties between the UAE and France, was formalized during the UAE-France High-Level Business Council meeting in Paris.

Strengthening clean energy cooperation in Africa and Asia

Masdar and TotalEnergies will collaborate to enhance reliable and sustainable electricity access in Africa, supporting the continent’s long-term energy transition. Additionally, the two companies will work together to explore new clean energy opportunities in Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, TotalEnergies and EPointZero will focus on advancing India’s clean energy ambitions through solar, wind, and energy storage solutions, contributing to the country’s decarbonization goals.
The FFA was signed by Masdar’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi; Stéphane Michel, TotalEnergies President for Gas Renewable and Power; and Peter Abraam, Chief Strategy and Growth Officer of IHC. The signing was witnessed by H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of Masdar; Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies; and H.E. Mariam Almheiri, Group CEO of 2PointZero.

Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi emphasized that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to expanding clean energy access and driving sustainable development. “Enabled by the strong UAE-France bilateral relationship, Masdar is proud to collaborate with TotalEnergies to enhance energy access across Africa and Southeast Asia. This partnership will empower local communities and drive economic growth,” he said.
Stéphane Michel, President for Gas Renewable and Power at TotalEnergies, highlighted the company’s long-standing presence in Abu Dhabi and its shift towards renewable energy partnerships. “By combining the strengths and expertise of Masdar, EPointZero, and TotalEnergies, we can accelerate renewable energy deployment in fast-growing markets where it is essential for sustainable development.”

H.E. Mariam Almheiri, Group CEO of 2PointZero, underscored the significance of the partnership in advancing decarbonization and energy access. “Our collaboration across India, Africa, and Asia will scale up renewables and energy storage solutions, ensuring millions gain access to reliable and sustainable power.”

With over 600 million people in Africa lacking access to electricity, partnerships like this are crucial for the continent’s sustainable energy transformation. Masdar and TotalEnergies’ joint efforts in Africa align with broader initiatives to develop cleaner energy systems and foster economic resilience.
This initiative also aligns with the UAE-France Bilateral Climate Investment Platform and the Comprehensive Strategic Energy Partnership, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to a sustainable, low-carbon future. As Africa continues its energy transition, strategic collaborations like this will play a vital role in achieving universal energy access and meeting global climate goals.
