Sistema.bio, a global leader in biogas technology and services for family farmers, has secured a significant investment from Novastar Ventures as part of a recent financing round. The USD 3.5 million investment from Novastar Ventures, which is part of a USD 7.75 million funding round, will accelerate Sistema.bio’s efforts to expand into new African markets, introduce innovative agricultural and energy products, and further its commitment to sustainable growth.

Sistema.bio’s mission aligns perfectly with Novastar Ventures’ focus on investing in businesses that drive both economic and environmental value. “Novastar Ventures’ investment strengthens Sistema.bio’s ability to empower low-resourced farmers with sustainable solutions that foster economic growth, climate resilience, and regenerative agriculture,” said Joyce Cacho, Board Chairperson of Sistema.bio. “Together, we are scaling impactful technologies that benefit both people and the planet.”

The innovative biogas systems offered by Sistema.bio allow family farmers to convert organic waste into renewable energy and organic fertilizer. This solution provides a range of benefits, including enhanced farm productivity, health, and resilience to climate change, while simultaneously reducing greenhouse gas emissions. These technologies are integral to building sustainable agricultural systems and promoting carbon emission reduction across Africa.

Steve Beck, Co-founder and Managing Partner at Novastar, emphasized the long-term benefits of Sistema.bio’s technology. “Sistema.bio’s innovative technology and financing empowers family farmers to transform farm waste into renewable energy and fertilizer, unlocking economic, health, and productivity benefits. This aligns perfectly with our Africa People and Planet Fund III (NVIII), which invests in businesses that drive sustainability and positive environmental outcomes,” he said.

Sistema.bio’s work supports the broader goals of sustainability by addressing issues such as poverty, food security, and climate change in Africa. Alex Eaton, CEO and Co-founder of Sistema.bio, expressed his excitement about Novastar Ventures joining their network of investors. “This investment will help us scale our services across Africa, providing farmers with the tools needed to build resilient, productive, and sustainable agricultural systems. It also strengthens our commitment to climate action, aiming for a 1% reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions by 2030,” Eaton said.

The funding will enable Sistema.bio to expand its reach in African markets and accelerate the development of new products and services that meet the rising global demand for renewable energy and regenerative agriculture. This move also sets the stage for Sistema.bio’s upcoming Series C round, further advancing its leadership in biogas technology and contributing to carbon emission reduction projects globally.
